The short version
getIRL collects no data. Everything it knows stays on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no servers.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your routines: their names, schedules and settings, and the apps, categories and websites you chose to block.
- Your history: when blocks started and ended, unlocks, and the hours protected.
- The name you gave the app, if any, used only to greet you.
This is stored in the app's own storage on the device and is removed when you delete the app.
Screen Time
getIRL uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity) to block the apps you choose. Apple gives the app opaque tokens for your choices: getIRL never learns which apps or websites they are, never sees your app usage, and sends nothing anywhere.
History can show your screen time by app category. Apple draws that view itself, inside a sealed-off part of the app that can read Screen Time totals to show them to you but cannot send them anywhere, not even to getIRL.
Notifications
Notifications (the unlock hand-off and the morning recap) are created on the device. Nothing is sent through a server.
Sharing
getIRL shares nothing with anyone, because it collects nothing. There are no third-party SDKs.
Children
getIRL is a self-control tool for the person using the iPhone. It is not designed for parental control and collects no information from anyone.
